A Healthy Smile Is Important for a Great Overall Appearance
Are you due for a checkup at your dentist, but you're a bit nervous about getting x-rays? It will help to know the following things about them to feel more at ease.
Why Are X-Rays Necessary?
As much as you think your dentist is able to see everything during a dental exam, they really can only see what is happening on the surface of your teeth. Those x-rays help your dentist see inside the tooth so they can identify cavities early on and help prevent small problems from turning into big problems.
Have you always wondered what the dentist is doing when they start to measure the pockets of your gums? This is known as perio charting, and it is an important part of tracking the health of your gums over time. Here are a few things that you need to know about this documentation process.
How Often Is Perio Charting Done?
You may have realized that your dentist doesn't do perio charting measurements every single time you go to the dentist.
There are subtle differences from person to person, but there's a great deal of uniformity when it comes to teeth. The formation and structure of your teeth aren't going to be significantly different to someone else's. However, this is not exclusively the case, and there are some dental abnormalities that can make teeth very different indeed. Talon cusps are one such abnormality, mostly seen in permanent (adult) teeth. But what are they exactly?
I have always loved fashion and beauty and have always taken great pride in my appearance. As a young adult, I never missed a hair coloring appointment or hesitated to run out to the mall to grab the latest trendy clothing item, but unfortunately, I didn't care for my teeth as well as I should. While I never used to be one to "shy away" from photos, I started fearing the camera after I saw how bad my teeth looked in one. That photo was a wake-up call, and I then dedicated myself to taking better care of my teeth at home, visiting the dentist regularly, and getting the dental work I needed. I learned a lot during this time, so I decided to start a blog to help others make smart dental decisions. Come back and check out my posts!
