Need to Replace All Your Teeth? Know about These Two Options

Are your teeth suffering from problems that will require you to replace all of your teeth with fake ones? If so, you may be wondering what your options are for this dental procedure. Your dentist may recommend one of two options for full teeth replacement: dentures or dental implants. Here's what you need to know about these two procedures.

The process of receiving dentures will actually take place over several visits. It starts with getting a health screening, where a dentist determines if you would be a good candidate for the procedure. X-rays will be taken so the dentist can look at the health of the bone underneath your gums and the health the teeth that will remain in your mouth. This will allow the dentist to see if any alterations need to be made to your gums so the dentures can fit better. Then, a mold is taken of your mouth to determine the shape of your gums for your new dentures.

After the initial visit, you'll need to return to the dentist a second time in order to have the height of the dentures determined since there needs to be a natural fit when your jaw is closed and when you are eating. You'll return a third time for the dentures to be fitted. Additionally, any small adjustments—such as ensuring that your bite with the dentures does not cause you any discomfort—will be made. A fourth visit will involve receiving the final dentures that you can wear out of the office.

All-On-Four Dental Implants

Many people believe that getting dental implants requires having an individual implant installed for each tooth that is being replaced, but that is not true at all. When you are having your entire set of upper or lower teeth replaced, you can use a procedure called all-on-four dental implants.

All-on-four dental implants work by strategically placing 4 dental implants in your jaw bone that are designed to hold an entire set of fake teeth in place. It offers more stability than traditional dentures since the fake teeth secured by the implants will not slip or shift in your mouth. This can provide an effective long-term solution to your missing teeth.

The process is very similar to getting actual dental implants since it involves an initial health screening, placing the implants into the jawbone, and a recovery process while the implants integrate with the jawbone. During that time, you'll go through a fitting process for the fake teeth that is similar to dentures. This fitting process ensures that the fit is comfortable and natural when you are biting and talking. You'll be given temporary teeth to wear while the final teeth are created.

About Me

A Healthy Smile Is Important for a Great Overall Appearance

I have always loved fashion and beauty and have always taken great pride in my appearance. As a young adult, I never missed a hair coloring appointment or hesitated to run out to the mall to grab the latest trendy clothing item, but unfortunately, I didn't care for my teeth as well as I should. While I never used to be one to "shy away" from photos, I started fearing the camera after I saw how bad my teeth looked in one. That photo was a wake-up call, and I then dedicated myself to taking better care of my teeth at home, visiting the dentist regularly, and getting the dental work I needed. I learned a lot during this time, so I decided to start a blog to help others make smart dental decisions. Come back and check out my posts!
